About The Principle Trust Children's Charity+*
The Principle Trust Children’s Charity is a Yorkshire-based organisation committed to improving the lives of disadvantaged, underprivileged, and disabled children by providing free, week-long respite breaks. These much-needed holidays give children and their families a rare opportunity to escape the hardship of daily life, offering relief from poverty, trauma, abuse, or health challenges. Through these experiences, the charity aims to boost mental health and emotional wellbeing, rebuild family bonds, and give children a chance to simply be children.
The need for this kind of support is growing rapidly. Child poverty in Yorkshire is at a two-decade high, with nearly one in three children—around 400,000—living below the poverty line. Families with disabled children are especially vulnerable, facing not only financial hardship but also emotional and physical strain. The Principle Trust exists to level the playing field, offering joy, dignity, and respite to families who may otherwise have little chance for a holiday or time away.
Working closely with local councils, social workers, charities and schools, the charity identifies families in the most urgent need of support. Each year, approximately 266 families are given the opportunity to take a break in one of the Trust’s seven dedicated holiday homes. These breaks offer more than just a change of scenery, they provide moments of happiness, rest, and renewal that can have a lasting impact on a child’s development and a family’s resilience.
Every donation to The Principle Trust goes directly to helping children. Thanks to their 100% donation policy, every penny raised through events and campaigns is used to support vulnerable children. This transparent approach ensures that supporters know exactly how their generosity is making a difference.
